Diversified technique is the most commonly used spinal manipulative technique by chiropractors. Like many chiropractic and osteopathic manipulative techniques, Diversified is characterized by a high velocity low amplitude thrust. Diversified is considered the most generic chiropractic manipulative technique and is differentiated from other techniques in that its objective is to restore proper movement and alignment of the spine and correct joint dysfunction. The diversified technique is taught at a majority of chiropractic colleges and traces its history to the National College of Chiropractic in Illinois.
Exam Process
After reviewing your health history, the doctor performs a thorough examination consisting of chiropractic, orthopedic and neurological examinations. He may take necessary spinal x-rays as well as use a digital camera to analyze your posture, which helps the doctor determine subluxation and muscle stress patterns in the spine.
Adjusting the Spine
Once a full exam is completed, the doctor will know how to best treat your condition.
This will possibly include spinal adjusting with the diversified technique. The doctor will have you position your body on a table face up, face down or on your side depending on what region of your spine he is adjusitng. The adjustments should not hurt and should actually feel good with the vast majority of chiropractic patients experiencing some immediate relief from the diversified technique adjustments.
Many times you will hear a "popping" sound like cracking your knuckles. This sound is called cavitation and is simply the air escaping out of the spinal joints as they are being re-aligned towards normal.
Safe and Effective
The Diversified Technique is considered one of the safest forms of chiropractic spinal manipulations and is used world-wide by over 78% of all chiropractors.
